An Atlanta Upright Piano Rebuilding and Refinishing by experienced piano vintage
piano rebuilder specialists
This was an interesting project for an Atlanta resident, where having the
experience to exercise versatility in piano rebuilding / refinishing was
invaluable. When the piano came into our shop, she had asked us to
ascertain if the piano she was seeking was maple. Once we'd determined
this, we set out to remove nearly one hundred years of finishes one on top of
the other. The last coating (by paint brush) had been that particularly
stripping resistant, lead based product that was popular in the fifties and
sixties... and it was lime green. Removing old paint from the maple was
not an issue, but when we came to the extremely soft and absorbent underlayment
for the scroll work regions, we encountered green dye that had set itself deeply
into the underlying wood of all the insets... not to mention the original clay
scroll work itself. As experienced piano rebuilders who have seen what
artistic flair can produce, we set out to make this customer a show piece.
That is (I hope you'll agree!) what we ended up with, and an ecstatically happy
customer to boot!
